Is Artificial Intelligence advancing so rapidly that it is outpacing society’s understanding of how and when it is being used? We have trust in science because of processes such as peer review, independent replication, and documenting context. What if AI is so complex that most scientists cannot understand the data? While training it’s algorithm program in ‘face recognition’, Google found the program trained itself to recognise cats from the videos uploaded to Youtube (Clark). Laws are needed to protect society from the influences of AI; do we understand the threat?
